Have you ever heard of a lamination machine? It’s basically a device that uses pressure and heat to add a plastic layer to a piece of paper. Its main goal is to protect the paper from getting damaged. This machine is widely used with papers, certificates, report covers, menus, signs and posters, photographs and much more.

Types of Laminators

Source: pinterest.com

Film

Film laminators use 2 individual layers of film to get the job done. The one at the bottom is covered with the documents that need to be laminated and the other is placed on top. Both layers have to be perfectly aligned so the process can be successful. There are hot rollers that go over the fil and paper and press down to stick them together with the paper in-between. This practical and efficient laminator for paper is very flexible and is mainly used in large-scale production.

Pouch

Pouch laminators are the most common ones used in a desktop setting. They’re the ones people think about when they hear the word laminator. There are clear plastic pouches that are lined with adhesive. You need to manually insert them into the device to get a seal. Once again, there are hot rollers that press the pouches together.

Cold

Just as the word suggests, these laminators are not heated. They’re mainly used on papers and documents that might get damaged if placed under or close to a heat source. The laminator itself is cheaper than the previous two versions, however, the pouches that it uses for the cold press are much more expensive.

A3

A3 laminators are a fantastic choice if you need to preserve and improve large print items for display, such as posters or signs. They can be either single or double-sided. They’re also very flexible when it comes to size, working temperature and the piece’s orientation. They’re most commonly used for documents that need to be publicly displayed like public signage, window dressings or exhibition graphics.

A4

A4 laminators are very common. They’re used in offices, schools and in retail. They’re used for photo montages, multiple ID cards and business cards, report covers, menus, instruction guides, and other documents that need to be reusable. The A4 laminator keeps them in presentable shape even after many usages.

The majority of A4 desktop laminators are pouch-style, using heated rollers to seal the papers in customised sticky plastic wallets. More sophisticated, modern devices have several pairs of rollers to give you a clean finish and a tight seal. The older, more basic models have just one pair of rollers. This increases the chances of misalignment and bubbling.

What to Consider when Buying

Size

When you’re buying your first laminator, size is the most important thing to consider. Not all of them can cover the same paper format. This mainly depends on your needs and the papers you laminate all the time. Sizes can vary so if you’re not sure which one to get or the size chart is confusing you, ask the seller and they’ll give you the best size advice.

Thickness

The unit of measurement used for the thickness of the laminating pouches is millimetres. These pouches can range from 3 to 10mm in thickness and can cover all paper sizes. There’s an unwritten rule that if the paper will be handled very often, like a menu at a restaurant, the pouches should be thicker and vice versa.

Number of Users

When you want to buy a laminator for paper you also need to consider the number of people that will be using it. Will it be just you? Is the whole office going to use it? If it will be used just by you, you should invest in a pouch machine. But if more than one person is using it, getting a roll laminator would be the best choice.

Cost & Ease of Use

All laminators have the same basic working principle. In general, they’re easy to use and don’t have plenty of buttons or complex mechanisms you should deal with. Of course, some are simpler than others. If you’re using one for the first time, ask the seller for a recommendation, and look for something basic. When it comes to price, they can vary a lot. Browse around, set a budget and look for laminators in that budget frame.

Laminate Finishes

Source: istockphoto.com

The laminate’s finish is what gives the final touch to the final product. There are several types of finishes you can choose from. Glossy is very common and gives a smooth, shiny and clear surface. It looks very professional and great when you want to use dry-erase markers. Matte has no glare or shine and works perfectly for documents you need to read under different light conditions.

Satin, soft touch and silk finishes are considered premium. They give a luxurious look and are great for upscale packaging like makeup products for example. Luster laminate is something between matte and glossy. It doesn’t have much glare but still has a subtle shine. It’s lightly textured and good for posters and photos.

Dry-erase and anti-graffiti laminate are both made to create writable surfaces. They’re mainly used for activity sheets, chore charts or to protect posters from vandalism. There are also textured, embossed and anti-slip laminates that are made for heavy-duty applications. They can withstand scratches and scuffs ab stand up to a lot of wear and tear.

Benefits of Using Laminators

Laminators bring a lot of benefits to the table. Their main goal is to increase the durability of some prints and make sure they can stand the test of time. They’re also there to protect important and sensitive documents from stains, spills, fingerprints, wrinkles, abrasions, tears, dust, grease, oil and much more.

Another benefit they bring is the improved look of the document. Every laminated piece looks much more aesthetically pleasing and has a more professional look. It also makes the document look more important, impressive and of better quality. Plus, it’s something you can use at home to save some important documents, drawings and papers from your kids and keep them forever.

One of the best ways to give new life to your Holden Colorado is by upgrading its exhaust system. Aftermarket exhaust systems are a great way to give your vehicle more power, better fuel efficiency and improved sound quality. One of the most popular exhaust upgrades for the Colorado is an aftermarket turbo muffler. These exhaust systems come with a high-flow design that will increase horsepower and torque while reducing turbo lag time which results in quicker acceleration from a stop. The performance exhaust system also features a lifelong stainless steel construction that has been Teflon coated to reduce corrosion and rust resistance. This upgrade comes with a lifetime warranty and includes all necessary installation components.

The benefits of an aftermarket Colorado exhaust system are endless. Not only will your vehicle gain more horsepower and torque, but it will also sound better than ever before. Aftermarket exhaust systems are generally made from stainless steel which not only makes them look great, but also durable enough to withstand harsh weather conditions. This performance exhaust system comes with all the necessary installation components as well as an easy-to-follow installation manual.

With this upgrade not only does your vehicle gain horsepower, torque and sound quality, but it will also be more aesthetically pleasing. The exhaust system comes with a brushed stainless steel muffler body with black powder coating that will make your vehicle stand out from others.

Parts of an Aftermarket Colorado Exhaust

Source: factorydirect4x4exhausts.com.au

Aftermarket exhaust systems generally consist of the following parts:

An exhaust manifold, which is the part that connects the cylinder head to the exhaust pipe. An exhaust pipe, which transfers exhaust gas from the engine to the catalytic converter (or muffler).

A turbocharger is a device that assists in increasing engine power by forcing extra air into the combustion chamber. A muffler, which reduces the noise level of an engine’s exhaust note. An oxygen sensor monitors the amount of oxygen in the exhaust and relays this information to the ECU.

Aftermarket exhaust systems are a great way to improve your vehicle’s fuel economy as well as its power output. A high-performance exhaust system will not only give you more horsepower, but it can also help reduce the amount of gas that you spend on every mile driven by up to 20 per cent.

Types of Exhaust Kits

There are axle-back, cat-back and header-back exhaust systems which all have their own unique benefits and features.
An axle-back exhaust system is a performance exhaust upgrade that replaces the entire centre section of your vehicle’s factory exhaust. This type of exhaust system tends to be much cheaper than other types and offers great fuel efficiency.

A cat-back exhaust system is a performance exhaust upgrade that replaces just the rear section of your vehicle’s factory exhaust system. These systems are usually priced lower than header-back and offer better fuel economy than header-back systems.

A header-back exhaust system is a performance exhaust upgrade that replaces the entire front section of your vehicle’s factory exhaust. Header-back systems are usually more expensive than both cat-back and axle-back systems, but they offer greater horsepower gains than both types.

Pipe Bending Techniques

Aftermarket exhausts can be either straight through or mandrel bent. Crush-bent systems are generally cheaper than the mandrel bent, but they do not offer as much gain in power or increased fuel efficiency. Mandrel-bent exhaust systems are more expensive than crush-bent, but they offer better performance gains and fuel efficiency. This is a result of the advanced technology used in the manufacturing process, which is more expensive.

Source: aaafab.com.au

Types of Exhaust Systems

There are three main types of aftermarket exhaust systems: stock replacement (or bolt-on), mid-range and high performance. A stock replacement system is the least expensive type of exhaust upgrade and only offers slight increases in horsepower over stock. These systems are typically made from stainless steel and do not come with any extra features or benefits that other upgrades provide.

A mid-range exhaust system is a performance exhaust upgrade that offers better fuel efficiency and more power than stock replacements. These systems are usually made from stainless steel, but they do come with some additional features such as a muffler and turbo clamps.

A high-performance exhaust system is the most expensive type of exhaust upgrade and offers noticeable improvements in horsepower and torque over stock replacement and mid-range systems. These systems are generally made from stainless steel or aluminium, but they do come with many added benefits such as improved fuel economy, increased power, better sound quality and reduced back pressure.

These systems are made from stainless steel or aluminium and come with many benefits such as improved sound quality, greater durability and added horsepower. An aftermarket turbo muffler comes with all the necessary installation components so you can do the work yourself at home without having to pay for professional installation.

The word “smart” is getting thrown around with TVs these days, and its meaning seems to be constantly changing. For most, however, it means that the TV is capable of connecting to your smartphone or computer, as well as the internet. When shopping for a smart TV, make sure you only consider the best brands, as the smarts in the cheaper brands aren’t so smart. The OS from well-known brands is typically faster, provides more options, and is easier to use.

Generally, smart TVs can:

Stream media from your phone or computer to the TV

Connect wirelessly and use apps like Netflix, Stan, ABC iView and more

Apply security and system updates to improve performance and features

But there are more things to consider besides the brand of the TV.

The Biggest Factor – Size

source:b wealthofgeeks.com

For most people, the biggest factor is the screen size, no matter whether they’re looking for a high-performance or basic TV. The first thing that will help you make the right decision is figuring out where to place the TV and how many people will generally watch at the same time. If your budget allows it, you should pick the largest one you can fit in that space. The sweet spot today for most people is between 55 and 65 inches.

However, the ideal screen size also depends on how close you sit to the TV. If you can count the pixels on it, you’re too close. Ideally, you should be three times the distance of the screen height for HD and at least 1.5 times the screen height for 4K. In other words, you can sit twice as close to 4K TVs.

But at the end of the day, no guide should replace your judgement and preferences. If possible, go to the store and look at all the different TVs. Buying a smart TV 32 inch model will be better suited for a tight space, yet you may have thought that a 43-inch one would fit perfectly fine.

Screen Resolution

source: freegameguide.online

The screen resolution describes the number of pixels that make up the picture. More pixels mean finer details, so the more pixels, the merrier. For many years, full HD (1920×1080) was the standard. However, manufacturers are rapidly changing to Ultra HD (4k). These models have 4 times the number of pixels (3840×2160). The biggest advantage of 4K screen resolution is that smaller objects on the screen are more detailed. As a result, the image appears teacher and more lively. This, in turn, allows you to comfortably look at the TV from a shorter distance.

Most streaming services, including Netflix, YouTube and Amazon Video have started providing 4k streaming content. Ultra HD Blu-ray discs are also becoming quite popular, and most big-name releases are in 4K. While Live TV hasn’t shifted to 4K yet, DirectTV, Comcast Xfinity and Dish Network all air 4K movies.

HDMI and Other Connections

source: allconnect.com

This is something to which a lot of buyers don’t pay mind. Manufacturers are trying to lower the costs of their products, by cutting the number of plugs available on the back. However, if you have a soundbar, a game console or a Chromecast, the ports can get filled rather quickly. If you’ve decided to get a high-end TV, make sure it supports HDMI 2.0 cables to accommodate Ultra HD sources.

The biggest improvement in the past few years is the VRR support, which matches the frame rate of AMD’s FreeSync and Nvidia’s G-Sync technologies. This allows the TV to match the frame rates of the content source, i.e. the graphics of the PC or game console, providing no screen tearing and smoother action, on top of higher frame rates and richer HDR data.

Moreover, this will allow for better adjustments at the scene level, providing precise backlight control, eARC support to boot, as well as the best form of Dolby Atmos sound formats to go through to compatible AV receivers and soundbars.

Word of Advice

source: perfectforhome.com

Here are some quick tips to keep in mind when looking:

Don’t go for a TV with less than 4K reso. Avoid 1080p or full HD models, unless you want a small smart tv 32 inch model or so as your 3rd or 4th TV.

You don’t need an 8K TV for now, as they’re super expensive and there aren’t shows and movies in 8K…yet.

Expect to pay a few hundred bucks for a quality 50-inch 4k TV. Models with next-gen features, better pictures and speakers cost more.

Look for a TV with 120Hz or at least a 60Hz refresh rate. A higher refresh rate means smoother motion for movies, shows, gaming and sports.

Get a TV with an HDR-compatible set, as it provides better contrast and more realistic colours. Ideally, consider a TV that supports HDR10+ or Dolby Vision.

Get a TV with at least 4 HDMI ports.

Avoid extended warranties.

Mitsubishi’s rich racing history is no more evident than in the Pajero. Crowned as the “King of the Desert” (and winner of successive Paris-Dakar rallies), the car has spanned almost four decades in providing drivers pure off-roading fun. Continual improvement in subsequent models has yielded four generations, from the first Pajeros to land in Australia in the early 1980s. Though discontinued, or morphed into the Pajero Sport, there are hundreds of cars up for grabs second-hand. If you’re serious about tackling the Aussie Outback, then the Pajero is hard to overlook.

A big car that doesn’t hide its intentions, the Pajero comes in raunchy six-cylinder diesels and petrols that will effortlessly glide in city traffic or put the grunt down when in the dirt. What makes the Pajero a worthy alternative to all the Landcruisers and Patrols is its independent suspension both up front and back, the centre diff lock and decent gearing, and good ground clearance. The slight shortfall in pure horsepower is easily remedied by adding an aftermarket Pajero exhaust system.

source: pinterest.com

Why Upgrade the Stock Exhaust in the Pajero?

The most obvious reason to upgrade the exhaust is to prevent gas flow restriction in the narrower tubing commonly found in stock exhaust piping. As the engine builds up speed, the number of exhaust gases increases and so does temperature. This is all good when idling, but at higher rev ranges there’s the chance of exhaust gases making their way back towards the cylinders in what is known as exhaust backpressure. It can hinder the work of the exhaust valves, effectively choking the engine. Backpressure also limits the efficiency of the turbo in the diesel Pajeros, depriving the engine of needed air intake and boost.

Such limitations are resolved with wider tubing. This is set at 3 or 3.5 inches in diameter along the entire length of the exhaust. Having wider exhaust piping allows for air to exit faster, and puts less pressure on the engine as it moves its way towards the redline. You’ll be doing the car a favour by not stressing the motor in more demanding situations and also saving some fuel in the process. For serious off-roading, you’ll need all the available power you can get, and an uprated Pajero exhaust definitely helps.

What to Look for in an Aftermarket Pajero Exhaust?

Build and Materials

There are dozens of aftermarket exhausts you can get your hands on. Of course, not all are created equal. Exhaust builders need to comply with current Australian Design Rules that set standards for auto parts and how they fit in the whole configuration of the vehicle. For exhausts, it is important to have quality materials, able to stand up against high heat and corrosion. Longevity is upped with the use of high-grade stainless steel, which is also powder-coated in heat resistant enamel. Tight bends are formed by mandrel bending for uniformity and to prevent gas flow restriction. Look for hand-built exhausts from renowned makers.

source: offroading.com

Exhaust Parts and Types

Buyers can choose between basic axle-back exhausts for their Pajero, that replace the muffler and tips to get a louder and deeper exhaust note. You won’t see significant gains in how the car drives, apart from the roar from the back. For the diesels, you get better results with DPF-back exhausts that change all the parts from the Diesel Particle Filter to the exhaust tips. This includes front, intermediate and rear connecting pipes as well as the tailpipe assembly. The best performance is achieved with turbo-back exhausts, that start with better, wider and lighter tubing from the exhaust manifolds, an included dump pipe for dumping excess gases and reducing pressure, and improved catalytic converters and DPF filters for quicker and more efficient burning of toxic gas particles. You can also choose the configuration of the muffler, and add a resonator to drone out the exhaust sound.

Diesel exhausts are sold for the 2.8, 3 and 3.2-litre engines in the second, third and fourth-gen cars, respectively. These are the majority of Pajeros on the streets. You can also spec an aftermarket exhaust for the 3.5 and 3.8-litre petrol cars. Keep in mind the model year and engine type to ensure correct fitting and operation.

Installation

Exhausts need proper fitment to reach the quoted performance gains. For the Pajero, all supporting mounts and brackets, along with connecting parts like gaskets, nuts and bolts are included in the package. Aftermarket Pajero exhausts are bolt-on types, so no modifications are done to the underbody. They slip in the recesses in the car. Installation can take a few hours, depending on the type of exhaust you go for. All units are tested before leaving workshops.

You can choose to do the installation yourself if you want to save some cash. Look for kits with included installation instructions. Personally, I’d have it done by a pro, and also swap out the air filters and do an ECU remap for that extra kick to the whole setup.

Where to Look for a Pajero Exhaust

There are dozens of Aussie exhaust builders. They cater to standard production vehicles, like the Pajero, or to one-off racing cars like the Paris-Dakar winning car. Many have been building exhausts for decades. Browse the web for detailed info and remember to shop for a compatible exhaust that gets the most out of your engine.

Electric tools are a necessity not only for people whose jobs require them but also for doing house projects such as assembling furniture, putting up shelves and so on. If you’re looking to buy suitable drills that will help you finish the tasks at home or work, Dewalt has a plethora of high-quality products. It’s a brand that takes pride in creating professional workhorse solutions such as tools, accessories, and services. Here are the things you should consider before buying your Dewalt drill.

Types of Drills

Source: bdoutdoors.com

Not all drills are the same and different tasks require different models. For small holes in wood or plasterboard, and occasionally masonry work, it’s best to go with a drill with a hammer action. You can choose a model with an 18V battery. The diameter of the drill should be up to 13mm. However, if you need more from your drill, seek other models. Here are some crucial features of each type that will help you do your job right.

Power Screwdrivers

A power screwdriver is a lightweight and cordless drill that is perfect for screwdriving tasks around the house. The fact that it’s cordless allows you to move freely and use it for various projects even for assembling flat-pack furniture. Such screwdrivers are handy, convenient, and easy to use, but can’t drill holes.

Drill Drivers

One of the best choices that will allow you to do various small jobs at home is drill drivers. Check the versatile Dewalt drill options and get a model that will help you drill holes into wood and metal. These also work as drivers, so you can tighten or screw things by using various screwdrivers and drill parts. They’re perfect for hanging pictures, putting up shelves and assembling flat-pack furniture.

Source: protoolreviews.com

Combination Drills

These offer the same features as the previous but have additional hammer-action features. It makes them ideal for drilling into brick and masonry. These drills are excellent not only for occasional home use but also for people whose jobs require such tools (construction workers for example).

Impact Driver

This is a heavy-duty screwdriver used for repetitive or big screwdriving projects. An impact driver uses an impact mechanism that helps reduce the force on your wrist when you do more of the hard work. These are great for tightening bolt heads and nuts, but also for drilling into metal because of their high torque capacity. Impact drivers are a bit more compact and lightweight than drill drivers.

Hammer Drill

If you’re going for a hammer drill (also known as impact or percussion drill) you’ll get a powerful tool suitable for drilling hard surfaces like masonry or concrete. These are ideal for heavy-duty jobs you do around your house such as securing gutters in place or putting up shelves. Hammer drills don’t always come with a reverse screwdriving function.

Source: toolmateshire.com.au

Corded or Cordless?

And now the dilemma is whether to get corded or cordless Dewalt drill. The corded drills are lighter than their cordless counterparts since they don’t have to carry a heavy battery pack. If you choose a corded design, you will have to get an extension lead. The cordless models won’t limit your movements and you can easily take them anywhere you go. However, these are usually pricier than the corded drills.

For instance, the cordless drills use a rechargeable Lithium-ion battery. It can be fully charged in less than one hour and holds its power for much longer. You can also use the same battery with other power Dewalt tools. This way you can save money on batteries. Corded power drills are rated in watts and typically range from 450 watts for the basic models to about 1500 watts for the more powerful tools such as hammer drills.

Getting a Dewalt drill with higher wattage is better if you need to use it for masonry. Lower wattage is a better option for drilling into softer surfaces such as plasterboard. Most DIY projects can be done with a 550-watt drill. The cordless models are measured in volts, so the higher the voltage, the more powerful the drill will be. Batteries size usually range from 12V to 20V.

Consider the Surface You Will Drill Into

Source: medium.com

If you’re a person who does various tasks around your home, you’ll need to drill into masonry at least once. It’s best to do that will a drill hammer. Larger diameter holes in masonry are better done with a corded drill at a low speed. On the other hand, drilling into wood, metal or plastic is better done with a drill that has multiple-speed features.

Explanation of Drill Features

Depth Stop

This one is placed to the side of the drill and can be adjusted to make sure the hole you’re drilling won’t exceed the wanted depth. This feature will give you a consistent depth when making several holes.

Trigger-activated LED

Source: 9to5toys.com

This is a very helpful feature, especially when you have to finish the job in dark conditions. The trigger-activated LED light will automatically turn on when you start the drill. Once you release the trigger, the light will automatically switch off.

Auxiliary Handle

Most heavy-duty drills and drivers (corded or cordless) come with an auxiliary handle. This handle improves safety, control, and accuracy during the drilling process. It can be positioned on either side of the drill and helps you improve your force and control.

But as great as the Isuzu D-Max is, off-roaders often modify it to further improve its durability and driveability off the beaten trail. One of the most common modifications done to the D-Max is installing an aftermarket Isuzu Dmax exhaust system.

Aftermarket exhaust systems are one of the most popular modifications for a couple of reasons. They’re not that expensive, yet they provide a wide range of benefits, including improved engine performance, reduced fuel usage, and a myriad of other advantages based on the type of aftermarket Isuzu Dmax exhaust system you choose to install. Let’s go into more detail about the types of aftermarket systems.

Types of Exhaust Systems

Exhaust systems can be categorised in different ways, such as the materials they’re made of, the number of parts they replace on your stock exhaust, and the type of bends they feature.

Exhaust Materials

Your stock exhaust system is probably made of mild steel. Mild steel, while a decent material, doesn’t have the necessary properties to handle rough, off-road environments. For that reason, most aftermarket Isuzu Dmax exhaust system kits are made using aluminised or stainless steel. Aluminised steel is a lightweight, yet durable material. Due to their lightweight nature, aluminised steel exhaust systems provide the most fuel consumption benefits. While aluminised steel is durable and resistant to the elements by itself, it is often powder coated to further enhance those characteristics. Stainless steel, on the other hand, is heavier than aluminised steel, but it’s far more durable, resistant to corrosion, as well as the elements. Most stainless steel exhaust system upgrades are a one-and-done deal. This is because they’re extremely durable and long-lasting, so they will probably outlast the lifespan of your vehicle.

Types of Exhaust Kits

Based on the number of parts aftermarket exhaust systems replace, they are separated into three categories – axle-back, cat-back and header-back exhaust systems. Axle-back exhaust systems replace the fewest parts (everything from the rear-axle to the exhaust tip). That being said, they’re the most affordable solution, but don’t provide as many benefits as other types of exhaust kits. Axle-back exhaust upgrades are generally performed for aesthetic purposes, and they’re easy to install, even if you’re not the handiest gearhead. Cat-back exhaust systems replace everything from the catalytic converter to the exhaust tip. As a result, they offer moderate benefits, are slightly more expensive than axle-back kits, and are slightly more difficult to install. Lastly, header-back exhaust systems replace the entire stock system, and they offer the most benefits in terms of performance and fuel consumption. Header-back exhaust systems are the most difficult to install and nine times out of ten will require professional installation.

Type of Pipe Bends

The method used to bend the exhaust pipes plays a huge role in how well the entire exhaust system performs. Most stock exhaust systems are made using crush or wrinkle bending. While you get a working product using these bending techniques, they’re restrictive. The reason manufacturers use these techniques is because they’re economic, and with the competitive automotive market today, manufacturers are looking to cut costs. Aftermarket exhaust system manufacturers, on the other hand, employ a technique known as mandrel bending. Mandrel bending includes using a mandrel on top of the die and shoe used in other bending techniques, to ensure the pipes don’t come with any profile or diameter changes when bent. This provides more room for air to go in and out of the engine, allowing for optimum performance.

Other Considerations

Clearance and Fit

Even when looking at Isuzu Dmax-specific exhaust systems, you have to make sure the exhaust is made for your make and year. This is to ensure a proper and seamless installation and fit. Otherwise, you risk clearance issues, and you might need to modify your Isuzu more than you’d like. Due to the popularity of the Dmax, aftermarket exhaust systems made specifically for it are widely available. There are some great universal kits as well, but they should be your last-resort option.

Budget

It goes without saying that you get what you pay for. For that reason, have a budget in mind beforehand, and look for an exhaust upgrade within that range. As briefly aforementioned, axle-back and cat-back kits are on the more affordable side, but they won’t provide as many benefits as header-back exhausts. Aluminised steel is also more affordable than stainless steel, but it’s less durable and resistant to the elements.

It’s without a doubt that utes and 4WDs are some of the most versatile vehicles there are. With a drivetrain that can take you anywhere and space by the bucketload, especially in utes, they’re far from your everyday driver. Utes have the option of the huge tray out back, which makes them the perfect option If you’re a tradesman or a serious adventurer. They can be loaded with all the equipment and tools you use for work, and any sporting or camping gear you can throw at them.

Maximising space in your tray doesn’t need to cost the earth. Sure, you can outfit it with an expensive canopy or smaller toolbox, but there are cheaper options around. Take for example roll bars and utility racks. Both can be used to add function and form. 4×4 roll bars look particularly good that most utes sold new now have them as standard equipment. Utility racks, in the form of rear or full racks, are especially good for the bulkier loads that would otherwise eat into valuable space in the tray. Let’s take a closer look at each.

Sports Roll Bars

source: m4tuning.com

4×4 roll bars may be ridiculed by some of the off-roading purists out there, but they do serve a purpose. In the days of old, when chassis were brittle things and there wasn’t much in the way of stability or traction control, roll bars were what kept you from being crushed in case your 4WD rolled over. Accidents back then were common and these additions have saved lives. Fast forward a few decades, and a lot has changed. Chassis and shells are now integrated and safety standards much higher. Roofs are designed to take all the weight of an overturned vehicle. Roll bars now serve more an aesthetic function, or a hark to the days of old.

They do look good though. But besides the looks, there are ways to put 4×4 roll bars to better use. Firstly, they can be used in conjunction with baskets and trays, both in single and dual cabs. This takes the load off the roof and moves things further back. Larger items, like spare tyres, can be easily loaded at a height that doesn’t impede on the space below. But combined with a roof rack, they provide for a larger loading area, while keeping the tray free for anything else you need. Additional side protectors shield your load from prying eyes and locks secure everything in place.

Many manufacturers and aftermarket dealers also offer functional extras. LED lights and light arrays, some with a retracting function for a more snug, aerodynamic fit lighten unlit paths during the night and retract when not needed. In addition, protective arches can be fitted from the central tube to shield the back window from any items hurling towards the cabin if not tied down, or come loose in tough terrain.

Designs and materials in 4×4 roll bars vary. The central back tube is usually thicker than the side legs. These are the parts that extend down and are fitted to the hub rails or drilled into the hub lining. They can be optioned in different heights and used as a convenient rail to better access things in the tray. In terms of materials, sports roll bars are made of either stainless steel, as a more durable option, or as polyester bars. Steel variants can be coated in black protective powder for rust protection and better looks. They are also rated at carrying higher loads, up to 100 kilos in most cases. Polyester 4×4 roll bars, on the other hand, can handle up to 50 kilos, and often include a built-in third brake light. Both designs are intended to be used with tonneau covers, so no worries there.

Ladder and Utility Racks

source: highspeedweld.com

Utility racks are also known as ladder racks since they’re used to carry long, bulky items that otherwise won’t fit in the tray. Sure, you can load ladders, canoes, kayaks or other things with some length into the tray as it is, but you lose space for anything else. Having a ladder rack not only frees up space for other goodies but is a safer option in carrying such things around, especially at speed. They won’t be unsettled in turns or bumps in the road.

Ladder racks can be single pieces, often secured at the end of the tray and combined with an installed roll bar. Or they can be full ladder racks with two pairs of extending arms at either end of the tray. They can be installed at any length along the tray, so you can make full use of the remaining space. Heights are also adjustable and include sliders secured by locks. Ladder racks are rated at carrying heavy loads, up to 400 kilos, so are a secure way to carry anything with more heft, or even serve as a base for rooftop tents. Combined with front H-racks, they are good for transporting extremely long loads, like timber planks. This combination is often sought out by tradies. Like roll bars, they’re made of durable stainless steel and can be optioned with powder coatings.

Installing and Buying Roll Bars and Ladder Racks

source: trail4runner.com

Most utes have rails that extend the length of the tray. These serve to position add-ons like roll bars with minimal fuss. Installation here is quick and won’t cause any modifications if you choose to remove the bar. Older utes may require drilling into the hub at the designated points, then bars are secured in place with bolts. Ladder racks may also require drilling into the tray bed. Most racks, however, clamp onto the bed rails, so here too things are quick, easy and safe.

You can go for original 4×4 roll bars from your dealership, or save some money and get them aftermarket. As for ladder racks, they’re best installed at your local 4WD store, in the configuration and finish you’re after.

Though new car sales have been stagnant during the last year, used car prices have skyrocketed. Aussies tend to go for reliability, value, and decent performance both at the wheel and the servo. Diesel-powered utes and 4WDs are still the option for most families and tradies, and now with limited new stock, older models are a reasonable choice.

Nissan has been a popular brand, comparable to the best Japanese and European makes, with a range geared towards utility. Daily drivers like the Qashqai and X-Trail, the workhorse ute the Navara, and the off-road beast the Patrol make the largest portion of sales. We can add here the recently discontinued Pathfinder to round out the picture.

The Navara has been at the forefront of the brand for over three decades. With the D22 available in all trims levels in the used market, you can snap up a decent car for a third of the cost of the recently released update. Most will have some miles ticking in the odometer, but will include extras like better intakes in the form of snorkels, some decent protection like a nudge or bull bar, tyres ready for the bush, and if you’re lucky, a canopy in good condition. To get the best out of the torquey 2.5-litre diesel you can outfit your car with a Navara D22 exhaust upgrade. Let’s take a look at the types of exhausts sold on the market and how they can improve on an already worthy ute.

Types of Exhausts for the Nissan D22 Navara

Depending on how much you’re willing to spend, there are different types of exhaust upgrades for the Nissan Navara D22. These include minor upgrades that add a little style or completely new exhausts that will give you some added performance when you need it most.

Axle-back Exhausts

Axle-back exhausts are the cheapest option that upgrades the stock parts from the axle to the exhaust tip. This includes the muffler, the tailpipe extension, the tailpipe and the exhaust tip. Though you won’t see any changes when you put down the pedal, an axle-back exhaust looks good, and the sound is even better. They’re also the easiest type to install, with most aftermarket options the D22 supplied with everything you need to do the work yourself.

DPF-back Exhausts

Being a diesel, the D22 includes a Diesel Particle Filter(DPF) that handles the toxic gases in burning fuel. A DPF-back exhaust replaces all the parts from the particle filter to the exhaust tip with larger, straighter pipes. This helps in a few ways. Larger pipes help exhaust fumes exit faster, which translated into plain speak means that your car goes faster. New air is readily available for combustion, so there’s no loss in available power. More toxic gases are burnt, improving emissions. Also in the sound department, you get a way better exhaust note.

Header/Turbo-back Exhausts

You can go the whole hog and rip out the entire stock exhaust and replace it with a header or turbo-back exhaust. This means all the parts are larger and wider, with thicker steel tubing to handle more exhaust flow at higher temperatures. Aftermarket options are specifically designed to fit within the recesses of the underbody, so no major modifications, like drilling need to be carried out. For the best performance gains, this is the exhaust to go for. It provides the most added horses, the best exhaust sound, and in the process helps remove unnecessary heat and pressure from building up in the engine. Yes, you do pay more, but you also extend engine longevity. The only downside with a turbo-back exhaust, besides the costs, is the time needed for installation.

Single vs Twin Exhausts

Most exhausts on the Nissan Navara D22 are single exhaust systems, that extend from a single exhaust manifold. You can go for a dual exhaust tailpipe for a sportier appearance. Intermediate sections just before the DPF filter may split and intersect for better gas separation. Real dual systems, however, feature on cars with larger displacement engines, like the 6 and 8 cylinder diesel and petrol Patrols or Pathfinders, with each exhaust tip feeding from a separate set of pipes. Here, it’s more about optimal exhaust management than appearance.

Benefits of Aftermarket Exhausts

Stock exhausts are made as a cost-saving option to reduce overall vehicle price. Installing an aftermarket exhaust will mean better materials, generally stainless steel, reinforced brackets, and wider, tougher and straighter piping for better exhaust flow. The performance gains are evident, as are the better appearance, lower emissions, and deeper, rumbling sound. Depending on the type of exhaust you choose, upgrades will vary. If you choose to save a few dollars, go for aluminised mufflers which are generally up to par with the stainless steel variants.

Installation and buying

Nissan Navara D22 exhaust upgrades can be installed by anyone mechanically inclined. Kits include all the necessary brackets and bolts that fit into pre-drilled holes holding the stock exhaust. Or you can save time and get the exhaust installed by a pro, either with a retailer recommendation or at your local mechanic. Exhaust systems for Nissan and all vehicles sold in Australia are available from tuning and exhaust specialists.

If you were to ask people which vehicles are able to take you everywhere without any issues they are going to tell you it’s pickup trucks. Trucks, in general, are made with a lot more power than your usual sedans, since they are a lot heavier. But that heaviness is what gives them the ability to get you to your destination through almost any terrain. Pickup trucks are suitable for both on-road and off-road conditions, especially when you turn on their 4×4 capabilities. All trucks come with a version of 4×4, and while some have it as an option, others come equipped with it from the get-go.
Trucks are also spacious, meaning you can bring more friends and more equipment with you. Trucks are safer than most vehicles as well since you sit higher up. This keeps you safe from the impact when you hit a tree or any other obstacle. While trucks excel in some aspects, in others they can lack a bit of form. This is why side steps or running boards, as they call them, are one of many must-have 4×4 accessories every truck owner should consider.

Benefits of Installing Side Steps on Your Truck

source: mcarmor.co.nz

Protection

Although not everyone sees it from the start, 4×4 side steps provide excellent protection for your truck. They sit or hang lower than the floor of your truck, so they are able to keep the undercarriage protected from flying stones and debris. Step running boards for trucks can also keep the undercarriage from getting scratched and dirtied. A scratched undercarriage can easily form rust, as the exposed areas are not protected from the elements. This can lead to corrosion and far greater issues which will require you to spend a lot of time and money to fix.

Entering/Exiting

The primary use of vehicle running boards is to make it easy to hop in and out of your truck. You might be short, or you might want to take your children or grandparents for a ride. No matter the case, it won’t be a mission to get in and get out of your truck.

Cleanliness

Another benefit you’ll see from 4×4 side steps is that they can help keep the floor of your truck clean. By stepping on a clean surface before entering your vehicle, you won’t leave mud marks or make the floor of your truck wet every time you enter. You can just scrape your feet from the steps or board and enter your truck without worrying about getting things dirty.

How to Clean Aluminium Side Steps

source: motortrend.com

1. Talking about keeping things clean, you also need to consider cleaning aluminium step running boards for trucks. The simplest way to do this is to use some water to rid them of loose dirt and dust.
2. After rinsing them, make sure to let them dry a bit and spray them with an aluminium cleaner. Make sure it’s a non-acidic cleaner. Once you apply the cleaner, you need to use a wheel brush with soft bristles to clean the steps. Let the steps dry completely, and then use a microfiber cloth to clean them up.

How to Install Side Steps

source: bushranger.com.au

1. To install 4×4 side steps on your truck you’ll need box end wrenches, a ratchet and socket set, safety gloves and glasses, and an optional tool called a creeper. Usually, the first step of installing side steps is to install the bolt plate into the factory holes of your truck. This plate allows the brackets to be fastened in a safe manner without drilling.
2. Then, you need to attach the front brackets together with its hardware. Make sure to leave the brackets finger-tight since they will require you to adjust them later on. Once that’s done, just do the same exact thing for both the rear and centre brackets. Remember, the number of brackets needed for your side steps may vary.
3. When installing the side steps or vehicle running boards, you should have the threaded portion facing downwards when you have the board or steps on the brackets. When placing the board or steps on the bracket(s), make sure to align their bolts with the bracket slots.
4. After that, you need to feed the bolts through the slots on the brackets. This needs to be done for every bracket. Then, attach the board or side steps together with the provided hardware. Again, make sure you leave them finger-tight so you can adjust things before you tighten up everything.
5. When you have the side steps/board positioned properly, tighten the bolts on the brackets and the side steps/board. Do this for the other side of your truck and you’re done. Remember to check the hardware from time to time and re-tighten it if necessary so the board or side steps don’t end up falling off.

Illuminating the dark has been one of the most important advancements in human history. From the beginning of history, people needed portable light sources. Traversing the night is a dangerous endeavour as there are objects on which to stumble, or even worse, deadly creatures to run into, depending on where in the world you reside.

One of the ways people took over the night was by making fire portable. Kerosene lamps, oil lamps, candles and wooden torches were designed to be carried around, but they were not without risks of their own. At the end of the 19th century, the invention of the incandescent electric light bulb and dry battery enabled a solution for portable lighting options.

By 1922, there were several different designs of flashlights. In 1961 the first light emitting diode, or LED, as we know it, was invented by accident and by 1999 it was made suitable for use in a flashlight. Today, LEDs are the standard for flashlight illumination almost anywhere in the world. If you look back, most of us grew up with some concept of flashlights, usually having one stored in a central location, like the kitchen cabinet.

The advantages of LED technology and battery efficiency are constantly updating and changing the market, which results in more practical light solutions. Fenix flashlights Australia stores offer are some of the most popular choices when it comes to LED flashlights and outdoor lighting equipment. You can choose from mid to high-end rechargeable torches, LED flashlights, LED headlamps, bike lights, camping lanterns and torch accessories.

Fenix Headlamps

For hands-free lighting, Fenix offers a line of headlamps available in many shapes and forms. From lightweight headlamps to rechargeable headlamps suitable for work applications and tradies.

Fenix Rechargeable LED Torches

Fenix offers a wide range of super bright and powerful, rechargeable LED torches, LED flashlights and camping lanterns with a variety of lumens choices and battery types available. Some flashlights use regular AA or AAA alkaline batteries that can be found easily, while LED flashlights are powered by rechargeable batteries (lithium-ion) that are more expensive but provide higher lumens and you won’t have to keep replacing them. Therefore, the initial cost can easily turn into a well-worth investment that pays off in the long run.

Fenix has a large selection of USB rechargeable flashlights, lanterns, headlamps and bike lights. There are many benefits to USB rechargeable lights, including low cost, more power, convenience and environmentally friendly.

Top Considerations When Selecting a Flashlight for Your Outdoor Adventures

The Main Use of Your Torch

Once you have an idea of the type of battery you want to use, you can start looking for your flashlight, headlamp or lantern, depending on what’s most suitable for your needs. Fenix flashlights are divided into basic application types, including Rechargeable, Everyday Carry, Utility, Key Chain or Tactical.

Each one of them has a specification chart, so you can compare their performances and determine what is the best torch for your next outdoor adventure. Whether you need a flashlight for a camping or hiking trip, one that you can carry in your pocket or off your body, or a torch with an SOS or strobe for emergency purposes, you can find what you need.

Lumens

Light output is measured in lumens and it stands for the intensity of the light that the torch provides while on the highest brightness settings. Think of the size of the area you’ll need to light, so you could easily determine the lumens needed.

Beam Pattern

The number of lumens a flashlight has doesn’t show the whole picture of brightness. The reflector on each light creates a unique beam pattern, so make sure to look at the beam distance before selecting your flashlight. The beam distance is measured in meters, showing how far the light will shine before the brightness diminishes.

Accessories

Flashlight accessories are either included in the set or sold separately. To ensure comfort and ease and safe use of your LED torch, you’ll need a battery pack, hard case and USB charging cable, which are some of the basic accessories, to begin with.
